Privacy Policy

Overview

Waves of Silence (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is a sleep and soundscape-mixing app for Android and iOS, developed by Casey Idzikowski. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the app and this website, how we use it, and the choices you have. Waves of Silence is fully usable without creating an account — signing in is optional and only needed to sync your custom mixes across devices and to purchase a subscription.

Information We Collect

Account information. If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a unique identifier for your account, which sign-in provider you used, and the email address associated with that provider (Apple lets you hide this behind a private relay address, which we receive instead of your real email if you choose that option). We do not offer or store email/password accounts, and we don’t support signing in anonymously.

Content you create.Custom soundscape mixes you build — their names and the sounds, volumes, and mix settings you choose — are stored so they can sync across your devices. This is configuration data, not audio recordings; the app never accesses your microphone. If you’re signed out, your mixes stay only on your device and are never sent to us.

Subscription and purchase information. If you subscribe to Premium, purchases are processed by Apple’s App Store or Google Play and managed through our subscription-management provider, RevenueCat. We store your subscription status, the product you purchased, and relevant billing dates so the app knows what you’re entitled to. We do not receive or store your payment card details — those are handled entirely by Apple or Google.

Automatically collected information. Like most web services, our backend infrastructure automatically logs standard technical information with each request — such as IP address, timestamp, and the endpoint requested — for security, debugging, and operating the service reliably.

What we don’t collect. We do not use analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or crash-reporting SDKs. We don’t access your microphone, camera, or precise location, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites.

How We Use Your Information

  • To create and maintain your account and authenticate you when you sign in.
  • To sync your custom mixes across your devices.
  • To manage and verify your subscription and unlock Premium features.
  • To respond when you contact us for support.
  • To secure the service and investigate abuse, fraud, or technical issues.

How We Share Information

We don’t sell your information. We share it only with the service providers that make the app work, each acting on our behalf:

  • Firebase Authentication (Google) — handles sign-in with your Google or Apple account and issues the token the app uses to authenticate with our backend.
  • RevenueCat — manages subscription status and purchase events, and in turn relays purchase information to and from the Apple App Store or Google Play, whichever store you purchased through.
  • Neon — hosts the database that stores your account, mix, and subscription records.
  • Cloudflare— hosts our backend and this website, and serves the app’s built-in sound catalog.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of Waves of Silence and its users, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — in which case we’ll provide notice before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Data Storage & Retention

We retain your account, mix, and subscription data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (see Delete Account), we delete your account record and your saved mixes. Because subscriptions involve billing and are subject to financial and fraud-prevention record-keeping obligations, we retain a limited history of subscription/purchase events that is no longer linked to your deleted account — it identifies a transaction, not you by name or email.

Your Choices & Rights

  • Sign out at any time from the Account tab — this clears your locally cached mixes and downloaded sounds; they re-sync the next time you sign in.
  • Delete your account from the app or by emailing us — see Delete Account for details on exactly what’s removed.
  • Access or correct your data by emailing us at wavesofsilence.app@gmail.com. We don’t yet offer a self-service data export button in the app; until we do, we’ll fulfill data-access requests manually.

Children's Privacy

Waves of Silence is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections between the app and our backend. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.

International Users

Our service providers may process and store information in the United States or other countries where they operate. By using Waves of Silence, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than the one in which you live, which may have different data protection rules.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the app.
